Established in the
early 1990’s as the Neighborhood Police Officer Unit
Originally staffed with just 2 NPO’s
Unit expanded to 10 NPO’s
Restructured again in 2002 downsizing to 4 officers, 1
Sergeant and 1 Lieutenant
Upon reorganization,
Unit is currently known as
the N.E.A.T. Team
(Neighborhood Enhancement Action Team)
N.E.A.T.'s Responsibility
To enhance the quality
of life in Peoria, Illinois neighborhoods
N.E.A.T.’s Methods of Enhancement
To work directly with the neighborhoods to identify problems
Joined forces with other city departments such as Planning and Growth
Department, Code Enforcement, Fire Department, Inspections
Established a record system to report unit’s activity
Identify strengths and weaknesses in city codes and suggest positive changes
To work closely with the Weed and Seed coordinator
What is Weed and Seed?
A federally funded program to assist in enhancing troubled neighborhoods
Monies granted only after approval of an extensive application process
Weeding is done by the N.E.A.T.
Team Seeding is done by many sources
