PROGRAM /SERVICE - ANGER MANAGEMENT (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - anger has many causes and manifests itself in many ways. Professional and/or personal, all are associated with stress. Recognizing and confronting those causes within ourselves or others, and dealing with those situations in acceptable ways is the focus of this presentation.

PROGRAM CONTENT - auto theft is a serious problem that effects everyone. This presentation relates helpful ideas to make your vehicle a less desirable target for the would be thief. Also, provides you with information to avoid purchasing a stolen vehicle or stolen vehicle parts.

PROGRAM CONTENT - several programs available depending on the specific needs of the group: (1) recognizing drugs and drug paraphernalia. PROGRAM CONTENT - a program designed to share observations and the Illinois State Law concerning driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - ELDERLY ABUSE, THE RECOGNITION, REPORTING, PREVENTION OF (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - a program designed to help older persons become more aware of the risks of being criminally victimized. This is also designed to help people recognize the signs of and prevention of elderly abuse.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - EMERGENCY 911/ENHANCED 911 SYSTEM (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - explanation of enhanced 911, what exactly 911 is used for and the consequences of using it improperly. Explanation of why operators ask specific questions.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - FRAUDS/CONS (suggested audience- Adults) (approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - suggestions on how to avoid scams, confidence games and swindles. Programs aimed at people who are not used to making decisions about home repairs or are not knowledgeable about business investments or banking practices.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - GANG AWARENESS (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - a comprehensive program explaining the origin of gangs and how they have evolved. Gang signs, clothing markings, territory, etc. What parents need to look for in their own children. Gangs particular to the Peoria area. This program also develops positive alternatives to resist gangs.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - GUN SAFETY (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - keeping handguns out of the wrong hands, responsibility involved in owning a gun, storage, maintenance, training, handling, use and legal requirements.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - HOLIDAY SAFETY (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - providing information regarding safety during the holidays. People forget about their property and personal safety when caught up in the holiday festivities. As a result, people are especially vulnerable to theft and other crimes. During this period we offer personal safety, and home security programs and distribute pamphlets as a reminder.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - I-SEARCH - FINGERPRINTING FOR IDENTIFICATION CHILDREN AGES PRE-K THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL (approximately 10 - 45 minutes in length)

PROGRAM/SERVICE - HOME SECURITY (approximately 45 minutes to an hour in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - information provided to make your home safe and secure, while you are there and while you are away. Door and window locks, interior and exterior lighting, home inventory, etc.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - JOB FAIRS/CAREER DAYS/RECRUITMENT
PROGRAM CONTENT - dispense information about the City of Peoria application process and procedures. Explain the benefits, salary, pension, etc.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - K-9 PRESENTATION (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - show the usefulness of utilizing dogs in police work for searches, tracking and drug detection, etc. The handler will demonstrate some of the training methods used and talk about the care of the dog. A video presentation is also available. Suggested ages are from 3rd to 6th graders/students/adults.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - LAWS-CRIMINAL, TRAFFIC, & CITY ORDINANCES (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - to familiarize the juvenile population to those laws and ordinances directly affecting them, their families, and their community. The legal age in regard to curfew, the validity of a drivers license, being arrested, etc.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - RESIDENTIAL/BUSINESS SECURITY SURVEY (approximately 45- 60 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - the best way to determine what is needed to help protect an establishment from vandals is looking at a place the way a criminal would. Assessing the physical conditions, especially the weaknesses, of the perimeter barriers, access points (doors, windows, vents), inside and outside lighting, locks and alarms, store fronts, small businesses, parking lots, schools, etc.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - NATIONAL NIGHT OUT (presentation time will vary)
PROGRAM CONTENT - a nationwide campaign that promotes partnership and coalition building among public and private agencies, business and citizens. An annual event to help build safer and better communities.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH (presentation varies in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - the purpose of this program is to advise people of a neighborhood watch program, how to go about setting up a neighborhood watch program in their area and what role the neighborhood watch plays in helping to prevent crime.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - OFFICER FRIENDLY (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - Officer meets with younger children, usually 3rd grade and below, to discuss a variety of topics from what a police officer actually does, to letting the kids know he is their friend. Stranger danger, keeping safe walking home, calling 911, good touch-bad touch, and becoming familiar with street signs and their own address and phone number. The Officer Friendly program also utilizes the "Johnny" remote control car, which interacts with small children. This car is approximately 3-4 feet long and 2 feet tall. This police car can be used during officers presentations or grade school assemblies. Please allow enough room at your facility for the car to maneuver.

PROGRAM CONTENT - This is combined with school bus safety as well to provide individuals/children with information they need to safely cross the roadway.

PROGRAM CONTENT - to provide individuals with information they need to prevent them from becoming a victim of a crime. This information can help keep someone safe at home, work, or play. Useful tips for people of all ages.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - RAPE PREVENTION AND SURVIVAL (Stranger or Acquaintance) (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - ways to protect oneself/families members and support assistance available. A program designed to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of sexual assault. It covers prevention techniques at home, at work, at school, while walking, or driving and actions to take if you are attacked.
PROGRAM AVAILABILITY - all year, by appointment.
PROGRAM/SERVICE - ROAD RAGE (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - an examination of "road rage" behavior and principals to avoid becoming being a victim of impulsive, anger explosion. Methods use to assist in preventing the escalation of anger in others (avoid eye contact, finger pointing, reactive behavior).

PROGRAM/SERVICE - ROBBERY SURVIVAL (Banks, Businesses, Personal) approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - basic steps to follow for an effective robbery prevention program: (1) know how to reach your business if it's ever a victim of robbery. (2) information employees should be familiar with the crime of robbery.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - SAFETY CAR SEAT INSTALLATION (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - general information on and helping one correctly install child safety car seats. The seats must be new.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - SCHOOL BUS SAFETY (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - a comprehensive safety program that covers walking to and from the bus stop, waiting for the bus, crossing the street to the bus, boarding the bus, and exiting and crossing the street in front of the bus. Instructions on safe riding procedures and emergency evacuation are also included.

PROGRAM CONTENT - a program designed to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of sexual assault. It covers prevention techniques at home, at work, at school, while walking, or driving and actions to take if you are attacked.

PROGRAM CONTENT - providing information to retailers on how to reduce and prevent thefts. Information is also included on internal (employee) thefts.

PROGRAM/SERVICE - VIOLENCE IN THE WORK PLACE - (approximately 30 - 45 minutes in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - This program helps to recognize the signs that may precede violence in your coworkers, and recognize signs of potential violence in your customers. We hope to give some constructive ideas as to how to defuse an explosive customer, manage employee hostility and respond to violence at work.

PROGRAM/SERVICE- BUILDING TOURS (approximately 45 minutes -1 hour in length)
PROGRAM CONTENT - tours are conducted to educate the general public in the functions of the police department. In addition, cost management and history are discussed.
SPECIAL ACTIVITY AVAILABILITY - all year, by appointment.
PROGRAM/SERVICE - CITIZEN'S POLICE ACADEMY (approximately 10 WEEKS - 1 day per week)
SPECIAL ACTIVITY CONTENT - This is an intense curriculum, designed to give the citizens of Peoria a better understanding of the operations of the Peoria Police Department and to encourage citizens to take a more active role in their community. This program provides a working relationship between the police and the citizens of Peoria. Participants will play an active role while attending class. The academy is schedule for two sessions each year. The first session will begin in March, and end in April. The second session will begin in October, and end in November. Classes meet on Tuesdays, for 2 hours in length, and last for 10 weeks. Classes will be held at the Peoria Police Department in the Community Training Room - 600 S.W. Adams Street - Peoria, Illinois 61602. Classes will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. A background check will be done on each applicant
SPECIAL ACTIVITY AVAILABILITY - 2- 10 week sessions per year. One session in the Spring and one session in the Fall.
PROGRAM / SERVICE - Color
Guard
SPECIAL ACTIVITY CONTENT- The Peoria Police Color Guard assembles to post
the colors (flags) of our Country, State, City, and Police Department. This
activity is usually done for opening ceremonies, sporting events, meetings, inaugurations,
memorial services, and parades.

SPECIAL ACTIVITY/SERVICE - COPS 4 KIDS (length of service varies)
SPECIAL ACTIVITY CONTENT - an ongoing program to present the kids of our neighborhoods a positive influence in their lives. It's a way for kids and police to interact in a positive manner, promoting a better environment, providing a role model that is critical in a Childs's development. Staffed by volunteers--time is the most valuable asset. Police officers and community volunteers are critical to the program's success. Donations of time, funds and materials provide a successful program/service, successful for the kids and the community in which they live. COPS 4 KIDS also sponsors two annual fund raisers, which provide funds for the Christmas program for families in need and which provides assistance in other programs throughout the year. The annual car show is held in July, and the annual motorcycle show is held in August.

SPECIAL ACTIVITY/SERVICE - CRIME STOPPERS (length of program will vary)
SPECIAL ACTIVITY CONTENT - a program serving Peoria, Tazewell and Wood ford Counties. Citizens can call Crime Stoppers at 673-9000 or 347-9000 to supply information to a police department on a crime. When citizens call they are given a number so they will remain anonymous. We never ask for or want the citizen's name. If the information results in an arrest and indictment, they are eligible for a cash reward.
SPECIAL ACTIVITY AVAILABILITY - all year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
SPECIAL ACTIVITY/SERVICE - D.A.R.E. (length of class varies) -
EFFECTIVE September 1, 2002 DARE Classes have been suspended until further notice.
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES CONTENT - A carefully structured course of study, focusing on topics such as personal safety, drug use and misuse, consequences of behavior, resisting peer pressure, building self esteem, assertiveness training, managing stress, media images, role models and support systems. D.A.R.E. also focuses on the interaction with very young children, which includes a curriculum for grades K-2. D.A.R.E. includes a separate third (3rd) grade curriculum which entails a program consisting of four lessons. The fifth grade D.A.R.E. program is an eighteen week program, which is taught on a weekly basis. Also, D.A.R.E. is taught is taught in the local high schools. The ten lesson high school D.A.R.E. program is taught during the health classes. D.A.R.E. is a curriculum which is taught by uniformed Peoria Police Officers. Each D.A.R.E. has successfully completed an intensive training session, which is sponsored by the Illinois State Police Department. Each D.A.R.E. officer is a certified instructor for the D.A.R.E. program. Both public and private schools participate in the D.A.R.E. program.
The V.E.G.A. (Violence Education and Gangs Awareness) program is taught in five lessons, to the sixth graders. V.E.G.A. is program to help students and adults become aware of the destructive nature of gangs and violence and to develop more positive ways of dealing with these issues. Incorporated with the D.A.R.E. program.

SPECIAL ACTIVITY/SERVICE -
POLICE EXPLORER POST #192 (length of program will
vary)
SPECIAL ACTIVITY CONTENT - Males and females, ages 14 - 21 years of age, attend a bi-monthly meeting to learn laws and how to prevent crimes. They are involved in public and charitable services, working in cooperation with the Peoria Police Department. Recruitment into the Explorer program is an ongoing process. Peoria Police Post #192 is an affiliate through the Boys Scouts of America, and works in cooperation with Peoria Police Officers. The explorer program is designed to give the Explorer an opportunity to view what police work really entails. This includes the dispatching and clerical duties. The purpose of the Explorer program is to give the Explorer the best information possible about careers in police work. This is accomplished through tours, guest speakers, discussion groups, and projects. The twice a month meetings meet throughout the school year. The first meeting is designed to acquaint potential Explorers with the members and people who are affiliated with the Explorers program. Questions may be asked and parents are welcome to attend the first meeting. Registration fee for the Explorer program is $10.00. and should be brought to the first meeting. This will expedite enrollment when one decides to join. A person's future is one of the best reasons for looking into different careers now. We are looking forward to meeting anyone who is interested in the explorers program. We look forward to sharing our knowledge and facilities.
SPECIAL ACTIVITY AVAILABILITY - Recruiting will begin in the months of November-December 2002 with instruction to begin in mid-January 2003.
SPECIAL ACTIVITY/SERVICE - FINGERPRINTING (approximately 2 - hours in length)
SPECIAL ACTIVITY CONTENT -A service to educate parents of children on how to keep their child safe. To help in that process, Community Services will fingerprint your child and give parents/guardians those prints to keep in a packet. The packet will also include a recent photograph of the child. In the event the child becomes missing the parent/guardian can give this to the police to aid in finding the person.

In addition to the programs listed above, we schedule speakers
for luncheons and groups and are available to provide a D.A.R.E. Squad Car and a
D.A.R.E. seized vehicle. We have police informational displays for neighborhood
outings or other events as requested. The Peoria Police Department holds a
Citizens Police Academy in the spring and the fall that is open to all citizens
of Peoria. During the summer, we host a Summer Day Camp for 5th grade D.A.R.E.
graduates of that year. If any of these programs interest you or if you should
